Classic Elle scratched by stewards

Friday 25 January 2013, 10:45pm

Tony Vasil is the latest trainer to come under scrutiny from Victorian stewards who ordered the withdrawal of one of his runners at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

Classic Elle was scratched 20 minutes before she was due to start after stewards received a report from the Compliance Assurance team and interviewed the trainer.

"After receiving a report from the Compliance Assurance team stewards interviewed Mr Tony Vasil prior to race one, who had both Classic Elle and Lucky Angel engaged to compete in race two," chief steward Terry Bailey said.

"On the evidence before the stewards Classic Elle was a late scratching at 6.56pm by order of the stewards.

"An inquiry in relation to this matter has been adjourned to a date to be fixed."

Bailey did not elaborate further.
