Another attempt at winning the Glasshouse Handicap is the long-term goal for Lucky Luna after he won the Sunshine Coast Cup on Saturday.

Lucky Luna won the Glasshouse in 2009 and connections believe it is a realistic target again this year because of his love affair with the Sunshine Coast circuit where he has raced eight times for five wins.

Part-owner Fred Dutton paid tribute to trainer Les Kelly who has had to manage Lucky Luna's troublesome hooves.

"His feet were so bad we thought we were going to lose him a few years ago," he said.

"If he races too long on hard ground he jars up a bit but Les is aware of his feet problems and looks after them.

"This is the best I've seen him race. He's an eight-year-old racing like a four-year-old."

Dutton said he was relieved when Lucky Luna paraded before the Cup after the running of the race appeared in jeopardy following torrential rain caused by ex-tropical cyclone Oswald.

"He loves it here and this is the race we wanted rain, hail or shine," he said.

Jockey Larry Cassidy stuck to a plan to ensure he had Lucky Luna travelling ahead of arch-rival Fillydelphia.

"I didn't want to be too far back with the big weight and I wanted to be in front of Fillydelphia because I felt we probably wouldn't be able to outsprint her if we were coming from behind her," he said.

Cassidy rode Lucky Luna two starts beforehand in the Bat Out Of Hell at the Gold Coast on New Year's Day and was impressed with his effort even though he finished fifth.

"He was 10 lengths from the lead that day but he motored home and his run was enormous even though the track was too firm," he said.

"I knew he had a great chance in the race and when they've won in the wet here before that's a big bonus."

Lucky Luna ($4.60) engaged in a battle with Fillydelphia ($4) before winning by a half length.

Michael Cahill, who rode Fillydelphia, praised the mare's courage under topweight of 59kg.

"She loomed up to win but a combination of the very heavy ground and the weight just told on her in the last 50 metres," he said.

Racing Queensland stewards cancelled the final two races of the meeting because of safety issues.
