A new generation will begin their racetrack journeys on Saturday when the first batch of two-year-old's step out at Randwick.
A field of 14 colts and geldings will tackle the Breeders Plate (1000m), the race that launched the career of Pierro 12 months ago.
Gai Waterhouse is favoured to claim back-to-back wins with impressive colt War who is the early favourite for the Listed race.
By More Than Ready, sire of Golden Slipper winners Phelan Ready and Sebring, War is out of a half-sister to champion mare More Joyous.
He is easily the most expensive two-year-old in the race having fetched $500,000 at the Australian Easter Yearling Sale and won his only barrier trial at Warwick Farm stylishly, giving the impression there was scope for improvement.
Paul Perry won the 2001 Breeders Plate with star sprinter Choisir and he will saddle up one of his sons in Saturday's renewal.
Wouldn't It Be Nice ($13) has been prepared away from the Sydney spotlight and has won his two trials at Cessnock and Wyong.
The David Payne-trained Regimental Pride ($13) is bred to be precocious being out of former top juvenile Regimental Gal.
Payne will also start Devil Miss in the Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) for fillies.
"It might be a bit tough for her, she may want it further," Payne said of Devil Miss.
"The other bloke is quite speedy and he should be competitive."
Waterhouse also has the early favourite for the fillies' division in Sugar Rush, a $600,000 Magic Millions yearling purchase who is top pick for the Gimcrack.
Like War, Sugar Rush is by More Than Ready and is out of Sugar Babe who won the 2007 Debutants Stakes and went on to run sixth to Sebring in that season's Golden Slipper.
