Quinton focuses on Coolmore with Peeping

Thursday 11 February 2016, 5:19pm

Ron Quinton rates Peeping worthy of a Coolmore Classic campaign despite reservations about the mare's first-up chances in the Triscay Stakes.

Peeping resumes as one of the favourites in the Group Three race at Randwick on Saturday, but Quinton is concerned weight might get the better of his stable star.

Winner of the Golden Pendant during the spring, Peeping has to give 4kg to her nearest rival and 5kg to most of the field when she carries 59kg.

The impost dampens some of the enthusiasm Quinton has had for Peeping since she was turned out in excellent order to finish second when under restraint in a recent barrier trial.

"She trialled very, very well but she's got to concede a lot of weight to the others on Saturday," Quinton said.

"It won't be an easy task, but anyway she's got to start somewhere.

"The main thing is she is well and healthy and happy."

Quinton trained Ofcourseican to beat Secret Admirer in the 2012 Coolmore Classic after the mare made her return with a close third in the Triscay.

Peeping will be part of a trio of solid Randwick chances for Quinton.

His well-credentialled sprinter Boss Lane is on the third line of betting in the Southern Cross Stakes.

Sam Clipperton will ride Peeping and Boss Lane with stable apprentice Andrew Adkins taking the mount on Magical Stance in the Adaptra Handicap.
