English imports to meet again at Rosehill

Imports Arab Dawn and Libran face an unlikely rematch in the Parramatta Cup at Rosehill, eight months after they competed at one of England's most famous racetracks.

The pair contested the same race at Ascot in June last year when Arab Dawn proved superior, beating Libran into fourth place.

That result is expected to be turned on its head in Saturday's 1900m race.

After beating one rival home on a soft track at his Sydney debut, Arab Dawn is at double-figure odds while Libran is second favourite behind Arab Dawn's stablemate Allergic.

Both imports are on a path towards the Sydney Cup, although Libran's trainer Chris Waller has a less ambitious goal.

"I just think he's a perfect horse for a Chairman's Handicap. It might be an obscure race to mention but I think that's his race, and the Sydney Cup after that would be a bonus," Waller said.

Libran was spelled after he finished midfield at his only start in Melbourne last spring.

He resumed with an eye-catching third to Bull Point over 1600m at Randwick, although Waller said the horse would need luck from a wide gate.

"His last run was terrific as everyone saw but he is drawn a bit awkwardly in barrier 11," Waller said.

Libran is the most fancied of Waller's three Parramatta Cup runners but the trainer says topweight Beyond Thankful and the consistent Loophole both have winning credentials.
