Paul Messara will consult Chilean owner Oussama Aboughazali before committing to a start Blue Diamond start with Flemington winner Weatherly.

The son of Beneteau was Blue Diamond bound until he miss the colts and geldings Prelude at Caulfield last Saturday after showing signs of mucus.

But Weatherly bounced back and showed his potential with a comfortable win in the Talindert Stakes on Saturday.

Ridden by Craig Williams, Weatherly drifted from $5 to $6.50 before scoring by 1-1/2 lengths from Conscious ($17) with Jackson ($11) 3-1/4 lengths away third.

"The horse's welfare is number one," Messara said.

"I will have to talk to the owner. He doesn't generally like to back up his horses so back to Sydney might be the option."

Messara said if Weatherly bypassed the Blue Diamond the colt would head to the Golden Slipper at Rosehill and was unlikely to have another run before the $3.5 million race.

Weatherly's sire won a Prelude before running third in the 2010 Blue Diamond Stakes and Messara said the colt had more raw speed that Beneteau.

"He has a very high cruising speed and whatever you put in front of him he seems to jump," Messara said.

"It's very exciting times."
