Hugh Bowman to ride Perignon

Sunday 21 February 2016, 4:27pm

Hugh Bowman will replace the suspended Tim Clark on Perignon when the filly tries for back-to-back Group Two wins at Randwick.

Clark rode the Gerald Ryan-trained Perignon to her first-up win in the Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) but was outed at Rosehill on Saturday.

He will miss Saturday's Chipping Norton Stakes meeting but will be back for the Randwick Guineas a week later.

Ryan was quick to snap Bowman up to ride Perignon in the Surround Stakes (1400m).

"Hugh has ridden her before so when I heard Tim was unavailable, I was glad to get him," Ryan said.

"She is going as well now if not better than before the Light Fingers.

"She is a filly who has really matured from the spring and is ready to step up to the 1400 metres."

Bowman rode Perignon in her three runs during the spring when she was placed twice behind the Gai Waterhouse-trained Speak Fondly.

She finished second in the Furious Stakes (1400m) and third in the Group One Flight Stakes (1600m).

Perignon is by leading sire Snitzel who Ryan trained to Group One success for the filly's owner Damion Flower.

A decision on whether she heads to the Group One Coolmore Classic and a possible clash with stablemate Solicit will be made after Perignon runs on Saturday.

Solicit will also be in Group Two action in the Guy Walter Stakes (1400m).

The mare ran second at the first start of her campaign with only Cox Plate winner Winx able to run her down in the Apollo Stakes.

"She came out of that race really well," Ryan said.

"She was able to roll along in front at her own pace so it didn't take too much out of her.

"I think she is getting better as she gets older and she is a happy horse."
