Wide draw to suit Bow Creek at Caulfield

Friday 26 February 2016, 4:17pm

A draw in the second half of the field is expected to be a better fit for Bow Creek when he lines up at Caulfield.

Bow Creek steps up to 1800m in Saturday's Peter Young Stakes after finishing 13th behind Suavito in the C F Orr Stakes.

Trainer John O'Shea said Bow Creek's performance last Saturday week should be forgiven because he was locked away on the fence after drawing an inner barrier in the first run of his campaign.

"It was a lot better run last start than it might look," O'Shea said.

"He was only beaten by a bit more than three lengths and he was knocked over at the 200 metres."

"He had barrier two which didn't suit him because he can be a bit slow into stride.

"This time he's drawn out a bit and he has an extra 400 metres."

Bow Creek came to Australia with the first shipment of international gallopers for last year's Melbourne spring carnival.

He made his Australian debut with second in the Schweppes Crystal Mile at Moonee Valley on October 24 when he split Group One winners Turn Me Loose and Lucky Hussler.

He was well-fancied before running 12th to Turn Me Loose in the Emirates Stakes at Flemington.

With Damien Oliver in the saddle, the Godolphin five-year-old heads betting on the Peter Young at $4 over Fenway at $6.
