Sprint delivers mixed result for Snowden

Saturday 27 February 2016, 6:18pm

The Snowden stable has been left with mixed emotions after the Liverpool City Cup, winning the race with Charlie Boy while stablemate and race favourite Rich Enuff bled.

Blake Shinn had to sweat on a run for Charlie Boy ($11) who was held up behind Rich Enuff for the first half of the straight before diving through along the rail to score.

He had a head to spare over the fast-finishing Rock Sturdy ($21) with Good Project ($4.60) another half neck away.

Paul Snowden said the stable planned to space Charlie Boy's races this autumn to get the best out of the horse and his next run was likely to be the George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill in three weeks.

"He's a very effective fresh horse and that's the way we're going to attack this prep, space his runs," Snowden said.

"He could have a light Sydney autumn and then get up to Brisbane again."

Shinn said Charlie Boy did a good job to score fresh and had no doubt he can go on with the job.

"He's started off this prep on a great note and I'm sure he's going to win a few more this time in," Shinn said.

Rich Enuff led and didn't show his usual fight at the finish despite clinging on for fifth.

Vets later confirmed the horse bled from both nostrils, earning an automatic three-month ban.

"I knew he didn't perform at his best," Snowden said.
