Sofia Rosa to be aimed at Oaks success

Thursday 3 March 2016, 7:08am

New Zealand filly Sofia Rosa has set herself up for Oaks success on both sides of the Tasman with victory in the Group Three Lowland Stakes at Hastings.

Trained by Stephen Marsh, Sofia Rosa dominated Wednesday's 2100m-race to win by more than four lengths.

After she runs in the New Zealand Oaks on March 19, connections will decide whether to bring her to Sydney for the Australian Oaks three weeks later.

She is at $11 for the Australian Oaks with fellow New Zealander Valley Girl a $15 chance.

The Donna Logan-trained Valley Girl will put her Australian Oaks hopes on the line when she runs in Saturday's New Zealand Derby at Ellerslie.

Two years ago, Logan used the same path with Rising Romance who ran second to Puccini in the NZ Derby before taking out the Australian Oaks.

Sofia had two starts in Sydney in the spring, finishing sixth and seventh in the Tea Rose Stakes and Flight Stakes.

She has won three of her four starts since.
