Injured Costin upbeat for Coolmore Classic

Thursday 10 March 2016, 3:15pm

A bruised and limping Winona Costin is confident she'll be able to give everything she's got when she rides Pearls in Saturday's Coolmore Classic.

The 21-year-old, Sydney's champion apprentice last season, showed her riding wasn't impaired when she managed placings in two of her three rides at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Three days earlier she suffered leg injuries and a badly bruised arm when she was thrown from her horse in the mounting yard in Canberra.

It was her second fall at the track in two weeks. On February 21 she needed hospital treatment after a four-horse pile-up.

She still walks with a limp and it hurts when she is legged up.

"But when I'm on the horse I feel 110 per cent," she told AAP.

Her main concern is wasting to 50kg to ride the Tea Rose Stakes winner in her first Group One ride for Godolphin.

Pearls is Godolphin's second string Coolmore chance, with stablemate Ghisoni the race favourite.

"I'm very excited. I've drawn a really nice barrier and a really nice horse for a great stable," she said.

"I'll be doing my homework on her - by the time the day gets round, it'll be like I've already sat on her."
