Part-time trainer Ross Pecora has experienced the buzz of his first city win with Winta Chiller at Caulfield on Saturday.
The three-year-old powered through from a midfield position to defeat a handy field of up-and-coming fillies in the Toorak Toff At Rosemont Stud Handicap (1400m).
"It's been a long time coming but it's come," Pecora said of the city success.
"To win your first race in town, it's a buzz."
Winta Chiller is related to Octavanus who Pecora also trains and who has provided him with a "couple of near misses" with city placings in 2009.
The three-year-old filly was bred by Pecora, who has been involved with horses for "20-odd years" and juggles training his small team with running his family business.
"I've got a cheese business at Dandenong market," he said.
"I've only got the two horses so I just take them to the track, finish pretty early and then off we go to work."
Pecora said he had tossed up whether to tip Winta Chiller out for a spell but decided to give her a chance at Caulfield after her Werribee win last Sunday.
He will now weigh up whether to press on to another race or send the filly to the paddock.
"I'll see how she pulls up now and go from there," he said.
Winta Chiller ($9) defeated Hai Lil ($16) by a neck with a long head to Are There Any ($10) third.
Favourite Spending ($3.20) crossed to lead from the outside gate but couldn't go on with it in the straight and finished fifth.
