Melbourne colts in Slipper edge: Williams

Friday 18 March 2016, 1:13pm

Craig Williams expects the strength of Melbourne's two-year-old form to stand up in the Golden Slipper.

Williams, who won the 2006 Slipper on Miss Finland, will watch the race from the jockeys' room - unless there is a scratching.

He has been booked for Moqueen, the only emergency among the 17 acceptors.

Caulfield-trained stablemates Extreme Choice and Flying Artie dominate Slipper betting and Williams says that rating is justified.

"The two Melbourne horses stand out," he said.

If Moqueen gets into the field, Williams says Anthony Cummings's knack for training long-priced winners in feature events will count for something.

"He does an amazing job with horses that haven't been fancied runners in big races," Williams said.
