Trainer Les Bridge and Jockey Tim Clark have continued their profitable partnership with Southern Legend winning the Listed Darby Munro Stakes.

The pair teamed up last year with Avoid Lightning, a stakes winner who was Group One placed during the Queensland winter carnival.

They also combined for success at the highest level with Hot Danish almost five years ago.

"It's always great to ride for Les," Clark said.

"Year after year he has a good horse. Last year I was riding Avoid Lightning for him."

Clark said he was pleased the Hong Kong-owned Southern Legend would continue to race in Australia.

Bridge said while the horse had only had three runs this preparation, he had been in work for almost six months and the Darby Munro win meant he would have a well-deserved spell.

"What can you say? He just keeps raising the bar," Bridge said.

Southern Legend ($5) came from off the speed to sprint away from Egyptian Symbol ($6.50) and Denmagic ($31).

Clark said the dry track had worked in the gelding's favour, as he graduated from back-to-back city midweek wins to black-type success.

He said Southern Legend had shown scope for improvement.

"He's still a little bit immature and we saw that pre-race when he got a bit warm," Clark said.
