Moody runners among William Reid entries

Monday 21 March 2016, 5:39pm

Trainer Peter Moody could have his final Group One runners in the William Reid Stakes.

Oakleigh Plate winner Flamberge and Danehill Stakes winner Kinglike are among the 18 nominations for Thursday night's weight-for-age sprint at Moonee Valley.

Moody is yet to confirm he will step away from training with a formal announcement expected on Tuesday.

The trainer will begin serving a six-month suspension at midnight on Thursday after being found guilty of a cobalt offence.

Flamberge is raced by Racing Victoria chairman David Moodie's Contract Racing while Moodie is also a part-owner of three-year-old Kinglike.

The William Reid Stakes nominations are headlined by last year's winner Lucky Hussler and three-year-old Holler from the Godolphin stable.

Darren Weir has three horses nominated, with Lucky Hussler joined by Newmarket Handicap runner-up Black Heart Bart and Scarlett Billows.

The John O'Shea-trained Holler is unbeaten in two Moonee Valley starts including the weight-for-age Australia Stakes.

The colt won the Group One Canterbury Stakes (1300m) at Randwick last start and is the early $4 equal favourite with Lucky Hussler.

Trainer Tony McEvoy has entered former New Zealand mare Miss Seton Sands who made a winning Australian debut at Flemington earlier this month.

He said the William Reid Stakes wasn't the original plan but he decided to nominate her scratching the mare from a Listed sprint last Friday night because of rain-affected ground.

"To me she's not ideally placed in a race like that at weight-for-age and I'd probably prefer not to run, but I'll talk to the owner and we'll decide what to do," McEvoy said.

McEvoy believes Miss Seton Sands, a Group One placegetter in New Zealand, is definitely up to Australian Group standard and has pinpointed the Robert Sangster Stakes in Adelaide as a Group One target.
