Track key to Moqueen midweek run: Cummings

Tuesday 22 March 2016, 3:25pm

Anthony Cummings has insured against bad weather disrupting his next move with Golden Slipper emergency Moqueen.

Cummings has Moqueen entered for a midweek city-class race on Wednesday, but he has also taken the precaution of including the filly among 23 entries for a Group Three race at Rosehill on Saturday.

Moqueen went close to making the Golden Slipper field with her third-placed finish in the Reisling Stakes leaving her agonisingly short of enough dollars to get a start in the world's richest race for two-year-olds.

Instead, Moqueen is near the top of betting for the Dapto Leagues Club Handicap at Kembla Grange, although Cummings will be reluctant to run the filly on a rain-affected surface.

"We'll see about the weather. I'm not keen to run her on a track that's too wet," he said.

Cummings's contingency plan includes the TL Baillieu Handicap at Rosehill.

"At start in that race is equally likely," he said.

A Baillieu appearance would provide Randwick carnival options for the filly who has given every impression she is looking for more ground in her races.

"If she ran in the Baillieu and ran well over the 1400 metres then that opens up the Fernhill Handicap and the (Group One) Champagne Stakes," Cummings said.

Scratchings will decide if Moqueen is joined in the race by her stablemate Rivo Boy after the colt was made fourth emergency.

From champion racehorse So You Think's first crop of foals, Rivo Boy won a Randwick barrier trial on Friday.

Cummings also has Puzzling Wonder resuming in the TAB More Than Just Winning Handicap as a last-start Randwick barrier trial winner.

Trainer Gerald Ryan has picked out the Anytime Fitness Albion Park Handicap as the starting point for an another Oaks campaign for Muzyka.

Muzyka failed in the VRC Oaks Oaks after her Wakeful Stakes placing, but Ryan is willing to give her another chance over the Classic distance.

"Her aim is the Queensland Oaks. The Oaks here (in Sydney) just came around a bit too soon for her and Queensland is a realistic target," Ryan said.
