Moody's double shot at Valley Group One

Tuesday 22 March 2016, 5:36pm

Flamberge and Kinglike will be Peter Moody's last Group One runners before he shuts his stable door.

The sprinters line up in the William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley on Thursday night, the final Group One race in Melbourne for the season.

Flamberge and Kinglike are two of six runners for Moody at Moonee Valley before he starts a six-month suspension for cobalt use.

As the cobalt saga dragged on, Moody said Kinglike had been one reason to get out of bed at 3am.

"He's a Group One-level sprinter and I've trained enough of those to know he is one," Moody said.

"I'm hoping like hell it's Thursday night (he wins), but if not I'm sure the next trainer will send me a carton of XXXX when he wins one."

Kinglike has raced on just five occasions, registering two wins and two second placings and was beaten by English when resuming in the Challenge Stakes at Randwick earlier this month.

"I'm very confident in his ability but I respect the fact he hasn't had a lot of racing and he still does a few things wrong in his races," Moody said.

He said Kinglike was in terrific order after putting in a solid gallop at Caulfield on Monday.

Flamberge was going to head to Sydney last week for The Galaxy at Rosehill last Saturday but was scratched after drawing barrier 18.

The six-year-old hasn't raced since providing Moody with the latest of his 53 Group One victories in the Oakleigh Plate last month.

"We've always thought of him more as a handicapper than a weight-for-age horse," Moody said.

"But he's in great form, he's in great spirits and he's there to run as well as he can."

Moody would like to go out a winner on Thursday night but knows he's facing a difficult assignment.

"I'm looking forward to it, but I'm a realist," he said.

"Whatever falls my way, falls my way."
