Former Victorian-trained mare Myonerose, who will be chasing back-to-back wins when she lines up at Grafton on Thursday, has a link to Australia's most famous race.
"She comes from the same family as Empire Rose," new trainer Brett Bellamy said.
"The further she goes the better she will be suited."
Empire Rose finished runner-up to Kensei in the 1987 Melbourne Cup then won the following year.
Myonerose, by Danzero out of the Zabeel mare Avert, tackles the Dougherty Constructions Class 2 Handicap (1600m).
The four-year-old was initially trained by David Hayes and under his care won a 1850m maiden at Kyneton.
She is raced on lease by Peter Wood and Bruce Thistleton, who was in the original syndicate that raced Myonerose.
"She's a lovely, big, strong mare," Bellamy said.
"Everything has started out well and hopefully it continues in the same vein.
"I told the boys (owners) early on, `we're going to have a lot of fun with this horse'."
Myonerose made her debut for Bellamy over 1000m at Port Macquarie on January 13 when she finished tenth.
She then scored a win over 1309m at Coffs Harbour on January 26 when she appreciated a solid tempo.
"Her first-up run was too short but she was a bit stiff not to finish in the placings," Bellamy said.
"She got held up at the wrong time and being a staying type, that didn't help her.
"I was ecstatic with her last start win. The trip was still too short but she was simply much too good for them."
Myonerose gets in well at the weights with 57.5kg.
"It does look a nice race for her. She's got a nice weight and stepping up to 1600 metres is in her favour," Bellamy said.
