Adebisi pleases ahead of Melbourne debut

Thursday 7 February 2013, 5:27pm

Queensland sprinter Adebisi gave trainer Desleigh Forster a breakthrough win in Sydney and he will be out to repeat the feat when he makes his Melbourne debut on Saturday.

Adebisi, Forster's first Victorian runner, will tackle the Group Three Rubiton Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield, a race she has identified as an important stepping stone to the Group One Oakleigh Plate.

Queensland sprinters have won two of the past four Oakleigh Plates with Woorim successful last year and Swiss Ace winning in 2008.

Adebisi, a last start Razor Sharp Handicap winner in Sydney, arrived in Melbourne by plane on Thursday morning and Forster said he handled the trip without issue.

"He's nice and bright and happy and he has been going really well at home," Forster said.

"He's been doing plenty of work in the Melbourne direction at home and has handled it well."

Adebisi gave Forster her first Sydney winner with a tough on-pace effort in the Razor Sharp at Warwick Farm on December 22.

Forster, who used to work for leading Melbourne trainer Peter Moody, hopes Adebisi can again utilise his speed to advantage in the Rubiton .

"He'll be my first Melbourne runner but hopefully there's many more," Forster said.

"It's a pretty even field but he looks the natural leader on paper.

"Usually when he can get to the front he likes to dictate and if he does that he's going to be hard to run down."

Adebisi has won nine of his 32 starts and is on the second line of betting for the Rubiton at $3.20 behind last start winner Rescue Mission at $3.
