Caulfield Cup winner Mongolian Khan will stand at Windsor Park Stud in New Zealand in the spring.

The reigning New Zealand Horse Of The Year, Mongolian Khan became the first horse since Bonecrusher in 1986 to win the NZ Derby and Australian Derby.

After his Caulfield Cup win he was one of the favourites for the 2015 Melbourne Cup but missed the race because of a bout of colic.

He failed to recapture his form in the autumn and was retired after his unplaced run in last month's Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

Mongolian Khan has gained exposure as the trailblazer for the initial investment into the New Zealand racing industry by the Inner Mongolia Rider Horse Group.

"Windsor Park are delighted to have purchased 50 per cent of the champion racehorse Mongolian Khan from the Inner Mongolia Rider Horse Group who will retain the other half," stud proprietor Rodney Schick said.

"Their president Mr Lin Lang is a passionate supporter of the New Zealand Racing Industry and will be backing Mongolian Khan at stud with a number of high quality broodmares which he is currently in the process of securing."

His trainer Murray Baker rates Mongolian Khan up with the best to pass through his stable.

"With his speed and ability to run fast sectionals Mongolian Khan ranks with the best racehorses I have trained," Baker said.

"He's got the looks and was a very sound racehorse who was blessed with a great action and a beautiful temperament."

The triple Group One winner will stand his first season at $NZ10,000 plus GST with a live foal guarantee.
