Ridden perfectly by young apprentice Ms Sally Sweeney, Madam Zabeel settled nicely in third place before peeling out in the straight where she finished off strong beating home Guru Jim by 1.25L, with Small Town Honey a further 5L away.
“I was quite happy to just sit behind the leader and she was travelling really sweet throughout the run. They started to quicken up and when I asked her to, she did the same and really let down in the finish.” Jockey Sally Sweeny commented.
The win came at start number 8 for the 4yo Zabeel mare who looks to be on the way up.
“She is really starting to put it all together now and her last 2 performances have been extremely good. We always knew she would take plenty of time to mature but she has had her fair share of setbacks and it is just great to see our patience finally paying off,” stated Blueblood’s Racing Manager, David Mourad.
John and Chris Ledger and their team at Wangaratta have done an incredible job of turning her form around and all credit goes to them for their endless hours of hard work. The addition of a new state of the art water walker at the Ledger’s stables has also played a big part in Madam Zabeel’s training regime and she has really thrived in utilising it.
Congratulations to a very patient group of owners in Madam Zabeel and hopefully it is the first of many to come.
