Aussies combine for G1 Singapore win

Monday 6 June 2016, 5:47pm

Laughing Gravy has given Australian trainer Cliff Brown his third Singapore Group One win for the year and Glen Boss the first of his extended riding stint there.

The win of Laughing Gravy in Sunday's Queen Elizabeth II Cup gives Brown a clean sweep of the Group One races run in Singapore so far in 2016.

Zac Spirit took out the country's premier sprint, the Lion City Cup, in April while Debt Collector won last month's Singapore Guineas.

"Things have been going well and let's hope they can continue," Brown said.

The former Victorian trainer didn't get long to celebrate the Group One victory as he was at the Gold Coast on Monday inspecting yearlings for the upcoming sale.

Brown said the recent run of success had come down to having the right horses, good clients and good staff.

"Having good clients makes a big difference as you can go to the sales confident in buying a good horse," he said.

The next Singapore Group One race is the Patron's Bowl on June 19 and Brown is hopeful, rather than confident, that Ares can keep his run going.

"His last run was quite good but in saying that he's still got to step up a bit," Brown said.

Brown, who sits fourth on the Singapore trainers' premiership, was contemplating taking Zac Spirit to England for next month's July Cup at Newmarket but the horse has been ruled out with a knee injury.

For Boss the victory couldn't have come at a better time with the three-time Melbourne Cup-winning jockey beginning a riding contract in Singapore last month.
