Daniel Stackhouse has continued a memorable week with victory aboard Jolie Blonde in Wednesday's Hareeba Stakes at Mornington for local trainer Mark Riley.
Stackhouse, 22, notched the first stakes win of his career at Caulfield last Saturday on There's Only One and backed it up with a well-timed ride on Jolie Blonde who firmed from $20 to $10 in the 1200m Listed event.
The Melbourne-based New Zealander is set for another milestone in a few days when he has his first Australian Group One ride in Saturday's Black Caviar Lightning Stakes at Flemington on the mare's stablemate Golden Archer.
"Two in a week is not bad," a delighted Stackhouse said after returning to scale on Jolie Blonde.
"I was very confident she could finish in the first three or be right thereabouts today. She had been racing well and Mark had set her for this race."
Jolie Blonde was among the lowest-rated horses in the race but after sitting midfield in the run, Stackhouse peeled her into the clear from the top of the straight and she let down strongly to defeat topweight Launay by three-quarters of a length with Sheila's Star a half head away third.
"It worked out perfectly for her today," Stackhouse said.
"There was good speed on, I got a lovely run into the race and she was just too good in the end."
