The strength of a recent Moonee Valley juvenile race will be put to the test at Flemington on Saturday when four youngsters who contested it clash again in the Talindert Stakes.
The Pat Carey-trained Annenberg turned in a pleasing debut in the 1000m race at Moonee Valley, finishing strongly from the tail of the field to beat all but the Blue Diamond-bound Gregers.
Behind her were Casquets, Essie's Pride and Politeness who all meet again in Saturday's Listed 1100m race.
Carey expected a bold debut showing from Annenberg and heads to Flemington with similar feelings.
But he cautioned the Moonee Valley form still had to be proven.
"She came from last at the Valley and that form has to be seen to hold up still," Carey said.
"But her run was first class from a two-year-old on debut.
"It looks like she has made good progress since that race and the extra 100 metres is going to suit her.
"Racing down the straight for the first time is always a challenge for any two-year-old, but what's at stake is black type."
Annenberg is still among Blue Diamond entries but her lack of prize money ($19,000) led Carey to run this Saturday.
Should the filly win the Talindert, he will have to decide whether she backs up in the Blue Diamond a week later.
Nine of the 12 acceptors for the Talindert are among the third declarations for the juvenile Group One.
Trainer Mark Kavanagh prepares Casquets and says the Blue Diamond is a possibility depending on the filly's performance on Saturday.
There will be plenty of interest in a couple of first starters, most notably the Anthony Freedman-trained Indulgence who has firmed from $9 to $3.70 favourite with TAB fixed odds.
The filly is not nominated for the Blue Diamond.
