Austin fined $5000 for positive swab

Friday 15 February 2013, 1:54pm

Central Queensland trainer Todd Austin has been fined $5000 following a positive swab inquiry.

Playtime, trained by Austin at Barcaldine, tested positive to tiaprofenic acid, a non-steroidal anti inflammatory which is found in human medication, after she won a Class Three Plate at Rockhampton on December 13.

At a stewards inquiry, Austin was unable to explain how the medication came to be in a urine sample taken from Playtime after the mare's win.

Austin pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 178 and was fined $5000 while Playtime was disqualified as the winner.

The mare won her next start at the Gold Coast on New Year's Day before finishing second to the Grahame Begg-trained Bennetta in the Magic Millions Fillies and Mares Handicap (1300m) on January 12.
