Steps In Time wins Breeders Classic

Saturday 16 February 2013, 2:35pm

Steps In Time has started her autumn campaign the same way she did a year ago by winning the Group Two Breeders Classic.

The John O'Shea-trained mare was sent out at $2.60 in Saturday's 1200m race at Rosehill and led all the way, holding off favourite and 2012 third placegetter Red Tracer ($2.45) by a half neck.

Her program once again includes the Coolmore Classic in which she finished eighth last year.

"She will go to the Coolmore third-up," O'Shea said.

"She comes from the same family as Vision And Power and the family seems to get better as they get older.

"This year she will go to the Liverpool City Cup on her way to the Coolmore."

The Liverpool City Cup (1300m) is on March 9 and the winner is exempt from ballot on the Doncaster Mile but that race is not on Steps In Time's agenda.

"She can't get 1600 metres," O'Shea said.

"That is just beyond her."

The mare's rider Jim Cassidy agreed with O'Shea that she was much stronger than last time.

"She is getting stronger as she matures," Cassidy said.

The win was an extra celebration for owner Neil Hoar who celebrated his birthday at the meeting.

Red Tracer is also likely to head to the Coolmore in which she finished ninth last year.

Both the 2012 Liverpool City Cup and Coolmore Classic were won by Ofcourseican.

The Coolmore Classic (1500m) is on March 23.
