The Apollo Stakes is usually a preview of Sydney's first autumn Group One race, the Chipping Norton Stakes, and Saturday's edition follows the pattern.
The past two Chipping Norton Stakes winners, Shoot Out (2012) and Danleigh, are among the 14 nominations taken for Saturday's Group Two Apollo (1400m) at Warwick Farm.
Neither has completed the double but Shoot Out finished second in the Apollo last year while Danleigh won the race in 2010 before an unlucky third in the Chipping Norton.
They are two of six Chris Waller stablemates entered for Saturday, the others being Albert The Fat, Gatewood, Kelinni and Tougher Than Ever.
Guy Walter has Doctor Doom and Willy Jimmy in the Apollo but will buck the trend with neither to progress to the Chipping Norton which the trainer won four times from 1999 to 2002 with Tie The Knot.
"Obviously they are two nice horses but in fairness they are handicappers, albeit good ones" Walter said.
"The options in Sydney are limited and they have to run at weight-for-age.
"The plan for Willy Jimmy is that he will go to Melbourne for the Blamey Stakes.
"Doctor Doom will head to races like the Sky High, the Neville Sellwood and the Japan Racing Trophy.
"He's entered for the Doncaster but we'll have to see how he develops over his next couple of races."
The Group Two Blamey Stakes (1600m) is set weights and penalties at Flemington on March 9.
Walter also has Group One winners Streama and Appearance entered for Warwick Farm.
Myer Classic winner Appearance will run in the Triscay Stakes while Streama has been nominated for both the Listed Triscay (1200m) and the Group Three Southern Cross over the same distance.
"I'll have a look at both races and the weights before I decide which one Streama goes in," he said.
"She may end up running against Appearance. They are on the same path to the Coolmore so it's inevitable they will clash along the way."
