Tamworth trainer Leon Davies heads to Quirindi on Friday hoping for a case of deja vu.
In 2011 Davies won the two features races - Sarah's Son in the Lightning and Prussian Secret in the Quirindi Cup.
Sarah's Son, a brilliant first-up winner at Tamworth, backs up in the $25,000 Lightning (1100m) and Clever Hans will represent the stable in the $35,000 Quirindi Cup (1600m).
Davies also has bright prospects of a treble with impressive last-start Coonabarabran winner Up And Over.
"It would be nice to do the double again. Both horses are going extremely well," Davies said.
Six-year-old Clever Hans has been highly consistent since joining the Davies stable and comes off a last start 1.8 lengths second to Rock Home Late over 1500m at Eagle Farm on February 9.
"He's done super since Brisbane," Davies said. "The tough run topped him off nicely for Quirindi.
"He was a bit unlucky. He got shoved back to last in a slow-run race but hit the line strongly. His final sectional (600m) was the second quickest on the day."
Since joining the Davies stable in mid-2012, Clever Hans, initially with Rado Boljun in Canberra, has had 11 runs in two preparations, never finishing further back than fourth.
The gelding has won a Coonamble Cup, finished runner-up in the South Grafton Cup and third in the Dubbo Cup.
"Whatever you throw at him he steps up to the mark," Davies said. "He tries his heart out."
