If Funtantes is to perform at her best it all comes down to rhythm, according to trainer Robert Heathcote.
"If she can get into that rolling rhythm where she's cruising along on top of the ground she always gives a mighty kick," Heathcote said.
Funtantes has failed to handle heavy tracks throughout her career but Heathcote believes an improving weather forecast will assist the mare's chances in Saturday's Falvelon Quality (1200m) at Eagle Farm.
"I was concerned that it was going to be a heavy track but the weather outlook is fairly positive and if we can get back on reasonable footing she'll race well," he said.
Although Funtantes has drawn awkwardly in barrier nine, Heathcote expects the mare's renowned gate speed to offset that factor.
"She races best when she explodes out of the boxes and puts herself there and while there looks a bit of pressure in this event those other runners will know they're in a race," he said.
Funtantes has been kept fresh since her dominant win in the Nudgee Quality (1200m) at Doomben on February 2 when she led throughout.
"She had a week out of the stable as part of the new strategy to keep her nice and fresh and I'm encouraged by how well she looks going into this race," he said.
Tomboy, Heathcote's other runner in the Falvelon, will race in blinkers for the first time after her lacklustre first-up effort when she finished 14th, beating only one rival home on February 9.
"I was a little disappointed with her run but it's not hard to forgive because she's been away from racing for a year and it was an unsuitable 1000 metres," he said.
"Since then I've put blinkers on her in trackwork and it seems to have made her a lot more focused."
Rival trainer Kelly Schweida says the drier the track the better the prospects are for Better Than Ready who is the $1.85 favourite in the Falvelon Quality.
Better Than Ready is entered for the Group One Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on March 9 and will need to win or produce an exemplary performance on Saturday to travel interstate.
