A lean run of city winners ended for jockey Jim Byrne aboard Koranovsky at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Winless from 65 previous city rides this season before being legged aboard Koranovsky ($5), Byrne earned some good-natured ribbing from fellow riders Glen Colless and Ryan Wiggins after weighing in first.

"A few of the boys have been rubbing it in but it's all in good fun and I imagine they'll give me a break for a while," Byrne said.

Byrne was aware the flow of winners in the metropolitan area has slowed in recent months but always maintained a positive approach.

"I've been riding plenty of winners at the midweeks at Ipswich and the Sunshine Coast and I knew it was only a matter of time before it happened in town," he said.

"You just have to push it to the back of your mind and concentrate on giving them every chance which I'm confident I've been doing."

Koranovsky raced outside the leader Beggin before withstanding a strong challenge from runner-up and favourite Cuddlesome ($1.70) to win by a short half-head.

Meanwhile, jockey Michael Cahill has urged punters not to sack Reflectance despite his costly defeat in the Termidor Handicap (1400m).

"He was a bit green and over-raced in the first furlong when I was restraining him then he wanted to hang out from the 550 metres," Cahill said.

"At the moment he's just a bit inexperienced and green and he could be a blinker horse later on but I wouldn't give up on him yet."

Reflectance, the $1.55 favourite, peaked on his run in the final 100m to finish second, beaten a short neck, to Platinum State ($6.50).

Winning trainer Bryan Guy admitted it was an afterthought to start Platinum Start at Eagle Farm after he was originally booked for a spell.

"After he won here last Saturday he was going to the paddock on the Monday but because it was a public holiday the float wasn't going to pick him up until the following day," Guy said.

"I had a look at the calendar and noticed this race was worth $53,000 with the QTIS bonus so I threw a nomination in before they closed.

"There's no public holiday this week, so he'll definitely be going to the paddock on Monday."
