Botti banks on Planteur progress for Dubai

Tuesday 26 February 2013, 11:54am

Trainer Marco Botti believes the benefit of having given Planteur a prep run will give him an advantage in the Dubai World Cup.

Planteur was third in the world's richest race last year without having had a previous outing and Botti believes his win in the Winter Derby Trial at Lingfield on Saturday can only aid his bid to go two places better.

"I know the margin wasn't very much, but it was a fast time and he broke the track record," said the Newmarket trainer.

"We have to be pleased with the outcome and he will come on a stone.

"We didn't have him 100 per cent for this race, so he should improve quite a lot.

"The Dubai World Cup has been the plan for a long time and giving him a prep race we should have an advantage from what we did last year.

"Let's hope he will be in good form and that all goes to plan.

"I think we shall ship him out to Dubai a week before the race, but we haven't finalised anything yet."

A decision on whether Ryan Moore or Adam Kirby rides the six-year-old will not be made until much nearer the race on March 30.

Kirby rode him on Saturday, while Moore was in the saddle at Meydan last year.

"Ryan rode him last year and he knows the track. Adam, I don't think, has ever ridden on the Tapeta, but we are considering both at the moment," said Botti.

"I've spoken with the owner and he just wants to see how everything is nearer the time."
