Darren Weir has the favourite Hurdy Gurdy Man in Wednesday's Launceston Cup but will also be chasing a two-state double with a good chance at Sandown.
Weir starts Lonhspresso in the Land Engineering Handicap (1200m) for three-year-old fillies on the back of a dominant win at Ballarat last start.
The daughter of Lonhro has continued to please Weir ahead of her city debut.
"She won well at Ballarat but this is a class rise for her and we'll see where she's at," Weir said.
"I thought she ran really well last start."
Lonhspresso, having her third start, raced to a 5-1/2 length win over 1200m in the Ballarat maiden on February 10 having been disappointed for a run when narrowly beaten the start before.
"She was well ridden and she showed a nice turn of foot last start. That's what I liked about the win," Weir said.
Lonhspresso is Weir's only runner at the Sandown meeting but later in the day he has Hurdy Gurdy Man in the Group Three Launceston Cup and Lord Of Brazil in the George Adams Plate in Tasmania.
Hurdy Gurdy Man is looking to claim the feature Tasmanian double after taking out the Hobart Cup earlier in the month.
"It would be nice to think I've got a chance (at a two-state double) but I don't really worry about that," Weir said.
"Hopefully one of them can win, or both. Just as long as they run well I'll be happy."
He said Hurdy Gurdy Man "hasn't gone backwards" since his Hobart victory.
Lonhspresso will be ridden by Ben Melham who was aboard in the filly's last start win.
Lonhspresso faces three other last-start winners including the Robbie Griffiths-trained We Own An Angel who has won her past two starts.
