INCENTIVE SCHEMES IN AUSTRALIA
Racing has never been more lucrative with state based incentive schemes distributing nearly $40 million Australia-wide in bonuses to owners, trainers and breeders. Each scheme is listed below:
• NSW - BOBS and BOBS Extra
• Victoria - Super VOBIS and VOBIS Gold
• South Australia – SABOIS
• Queensland – QTIS
• Western Australia - Westspeed
• Tasmania - tasBonus
BOBS
BOBS stands for the Breeder Owner Bonus Scheme, designed by Racing NSW to reward owners and breeders for racing NSW bred horses in this State.
BOBS pays bonus prizemoney to winning 2YOs and 3YOs. To be eligible, the horse must be sired by a NSW-based stallion which has been entered into the BOBS scheme. It is then the owner’s or trainer’s responsibility to pay the $990 BOBS nomination fee for the horse by 1 September in the year in which the horse turns 2YO.
A late nomination for BOBS is permissible for 2YOs only at a fee of $5,500. No late nomination is allowed once a horse has turned 3YO.
BOBS EXTRA
BOBS EXTRA is an extension of BOBS. A horse turning 2YO must be nominated for BOBS Extra at the same time as it is nominated for BOBS. BOBS Extra provides the same bonus prizemoney to horses winning races of 1800 metres and longer, from the day the horse turns 4YO until it is retired. The BOBS Extra nomination fee is $840.
BOBS Extra is optional, but a horse cannot be nominated for BOBS Extra without being nominated at the same time for BOBS. Both close on 1 September. There is no late nomination permissible for BOBS Extra.
BOBS and BOBS Extra bonuses are offered at all race meetings in NSW – metropolitan, provincial, country and picnics. Group and Listed races are excluded.

With more than $18 million in bonuses available for Super VOBIS and VOBIS Gold qualified horses, connections have the chance to increase their hip pocket and maximise market interest in Victorian bred horses.
To help ensure an immediate return on investment for owners, a majority of Super VOBIS bonus races are targeted at TAB country race meetings for two and three-year-old horses with bonuses of up to $10,000 available. There are also VOBIS bonuses up to $30,000 available to horses competing on Victoria's metropolitan tracks.

Entry into the VOBIS Gold program is a one-off $1100 (inc GST) fee for Super VOBIS qualified yearlings.
Under the scheme, the owner of a qualified horse winning a standard $15,000 Victorian TAB country race with a VOBIS Gold and Super VOBIS bonus attached will collect a total $27,410.

To be eligible to be registered for the scheme a horse must either be the progeny of a Queensland domiciled stallion, or its dam must have been bred back to a Queensland based Sire the season after it was born.
Such Bonuses are programmed across most 2 & 3yo races at Qld TAB fixtures, while older horses can earn QTIS Bonuses in specified races at non TAB meetings until they turn six years old.

TASBONUS
tasBonus allows for a dual nomination process whereby breeders and/or owners can nominate a horse to the scheme, with the bonus being payable to the breeder and/or owner, upon the horse winning its maiden or other specified special bonus races.
Eligibility
Yearlings that qualify for the scheme are:
a) Tasmanian-sired (Tasmanian-based sire)
b) Tasmanian-bred (mare must be Tasmanian-owned), based on Australian Stud Book registered breeder location
c) Catalogued for sale at the Tasmanian Yearling Sale (any breeding)
Costs
Breeder Nomination: $220 (incl GST)
Owner Nomination: $330 (incl GST)
A horse may be only breeder nominated or only owner nominated or both. A once-off fee is paid to Tasracing when the horse is a yearling and the horse then becomes eligible for a bonus whilst it is a 2, 3 and 4 year old, for its maiden win or for one of any special bonus races.
Special Bonus Races
Owners and breeders will receive an additional $4,000 ($3,000 owner/$1,000 breeder) bonus for non-maiden horses winning specified 2YO and 3YO races (of $50,000 or less).
A maiden winning a specified race will, however, only be eligible for its maiden bonus (i.e. the special race bonus will not apply). These will include four feature 2YO races, three feature 3YO races and approximately 16 open 2YO and 3YO races throughout the season.
