Stewards have reprimanded a jockey, disqualified a winner and opened what is effectively an inquiry into themselves as a result of the debacle at Ballarat last week surrounding apprentice Jackie Berriman.
Stewards began sorting out the incident at an inquiry on Wednesday into how Berriman was permitted to claim her 1.5kg allowance in a non-claiming race.
Berriman told the stewards she had been under the impression she could claim in the race she won on My Benz.
She duly weighed out for the race with 1.5kg less than My Benz should have carried and weighed back in afterwards without the error being noticed.
Correct weight was declared and winning bets paid.
Soon afterwards, steward James Hitchcock checked the sheet of paper on which the weights for each jockey were noted and recognised the error.
My Benz was subsequently disqualified and stewards on Wednesday severely reprimanded Berriman.
The stewards who presided over the meeting have self reported themselves in a submission made to chief steward Terry Bailey for his consideration.
Trainer Stuart Webb and the owners of Mybenz have received financial compensation and Berriman will not receive any winning percentage.
Steward Corey Waller who chaired the Ballarat meeting apologised to connections, saying the error had "clean-bowled four or five of us".
"It is a regrettable outcome," he said.
The disqualification of My Benz leaves the Troy Portelli-trained Kochamma as the winner of the race.
