Crystal Web has bounced back from a first-up defeat to become the latest stakes winner from his family in the Listed MSS Security Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.
The half-brother to ill-fated 2010 Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily benefited from an unimpeded run in the 1100m straight race to give top jockey Craig Williams an early winning double.
Crystal Web ($18) got home three-quarters of the length ahead of Flamberge ($26) with favourite She's A Fox ($3.10) a half length away third.
Co-trainer Mathew Ellerton said the race didn't go Crystal Web's way first-up at Caulfield two weeks ago when the gelding was posted deep from a wide barrier.
"He just got caught in no-man's land first-up and the race just got away from him," Ellerton said.
"It was a different story today. He was out in his comfort zone in a straight line and they weren't running away from him.
"It was a good effort."
Crystal Web became the fourth stakes winner for his dam Crystal Snip, along with Crystal Lily, Crystal Wit and Amaethon who is on the comeback trail after a year on the sidelines.
Ellerton said Crystal Web could back up in next Saturday's $150,000 Bendigo Guineas (1400m).
"That was the plan, but we'll just sleep on it," Ellerton said.
"He's definitely got ability. Through knowledge of the family he'll only get better as he gets older. He's still quite immature."
She's A Fox was having her first start in Melbourne and first down the straight.
Jockey Dwayne Dunn said the filly was lost.
"She had one ear forward and one ear back. She didn't know where she was," Dunn said.
