A return to Australia didn't result in Group One success for Tim Clark on Super Saturday but he still made an impact at Flemington with his first winner in Melbourne.
Hong Kong-based Clark, who flew in to partner Undeniably in the Newmarket Handicap, produced a rails-hugging ride from the inside draw to get the Pat Hyland-trained Bonaria home in the Group Three Schweppervescence Trophy (1600m).
Clark made his name in Sydney where he was the champion apprentice in 2005-06 and moved to Hong Kong in 2011 after finishing third in that season's Sydney premiership.
He said it was a thrill to return home with a win after Undeniably had earlier finished fourth in the Newmarket.
"It's just good to get back (to Australia) in general and the horse I came back to ride, Undeniably, ran a really good race in the Newmarket," Clark said.
"That was a bonus and I was able to pick up a couple of other decent rides."
Bonaria settled midfield and Clark never had to go around a horse as he guided the mare through along the fence to defeat Spirit Song by a long neck with Hi Belle third.
"We had a nice gate and a soft run and it really helped her," Clark said.
