Visiting French jockey Thomas Huet has been handed the reins on the Paul Messara-trained debutante Miss St Tropez at Muswellbrook on Tuesday.
Messara has little doubt of the former Paris-based rider's capability to get the job done.
"I know Thomas through a friend, Messara said. "He's a good jockey and I've got no doubt about his ability."
Huet is spending a couple of months in Sydney with Gai Waterhouse and rode former European Mr Monopolize to victory for the trainer at Newcastle on Saturday.
With a French rider partnering the filly named after the town located 104km east of Marseille in France and the race named after the filly's part-owners, Arrowfield Stud, it's an omen tip for punters.
Miss St Tropez tackles the Arrowfield Maiden Plate (1000m).
She won two trials at Scone last October and more recently at Muswellbrook on February 13. On both occasions the filly sat off the early pace before lengthening to the line.
"She was very immature early and needed time to develop," Messara said. "She's coming along OK."
"She's a nice type, heavy topped and a big thick-set filly.
"It's going to take her a run or two to get up to fitness.
"In the trials she sat off them and I expect her to do the same tomorrow."
Miss St Tropez weighs in around 550kg and being heavy topped, Messara has taken his time with her.
"I just feel it's going to take a couple of runs to really get her going," he said.
"On the track she shows enough without being over-flash."
