Kerrin McEvoy will partner both Epaulette and Albrecht in feature races this weekend with pair separated by time and distance.

McEvoy opted to ride Albrecht in the $1 million Golden Rose (1400m) on September 15 but was denied victory in the Group One Rosehill feature as Epaulette swept down the outside under Tommy Berry to beat him by a head.

Albrecht runs in Saturday's Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill and Epaulette contests the Guineas Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield on Sunday, freeing McEvoy from any decision.

"I've been on Albrecht (in work) since the Golden Rose because he's been up in Sydney and Epaulette has gone down to Melbourne," McEvoy said.

"Albrecht has pulled up well and I'm looking forward to the weekend.

"I'm looking forward to seeing what's going to line up against Epaulette at Caulfield. No doubt he'll be favourite, you'd imagine.

"They (Epaulette and Albrecht) are both good quality colts and it's exciting to be back on them."

Epaulette's three-quarter brother Helmet won the Guineas Prelude last year before going on to win the Group One Caulfield Guineas.

McEvoy believes Epaulette will handle racing at Caulfield for the first time.

"It can been a little bit tricky for Sydney horses but this horse has done enough in the Melbourne direction working that way, so it shouldn't be too much of an issue," he said.

"But you always like to see them go there and it's handy to have them there for the Prelude for that reason."

While McEvoy had to choose between the pair last start, with only a head between the quality colts he said it was a good problem to have.

"Both were pretty breathtaking runs the other day," he said.

"Epaulette is still learning his trade as is Albrecht, so there's no way they've been bottomed out. We haven't seen the best of them yet."

Trainer Peter Snowden was delighted with the way Albrecht pulled up from the Golden Rose and the Stan Fox is likely to determine if he also presses on to Melbourne.

The Stan Fox was won by Manawanui last year in between his Golden Rose win and Caulfield Guineas second to Helmet.

The Stan Fox nominations were extended on Monday after only five horses were entered.

Gai Waterhouse has nominated Kabayan, John Thompson has Trophies and Maury while John Sargent has entered Magic Shaft.

Entries for Sunday's Caulfield meeting will be taken on Tuesday.
