Poon granted licence to ride in Hong Kong

Friday 17 February 2017, 5:34pm

Apprentice Matthew Poon's success in South Australia has earned him a licence to ride in Hong Kong from late March.

Poon re-located from Hong Kong to Adelaide in mid-2015 to join the South Australian Apprentices Academy and is the reigning champion apprentice in the state.

He rode 51 winners last season and has already ridden 59 winners in South Australia this season to be second in the state premiership.

The apprentice is only one win off the lead in the metropolitan jockeys' premiership in Adelaide with 26 so far in 2016-17.

A Hong Kong Jockey Club release on Friday said Poon had been granted a licence to ride in Hong Kong from March 26 until the end of the 2016-17 racing season.

He has been indentured to trainer Richard Jolly in South Australia.
