Another international option for Jameka

Tuesday 21 February 2017, 3:20pm

The QEII Cup in Hong Kong has emerged as another international possibility for Caulfield Cup winner Jameka if she heads overseas after the Australian autumn.

Trainer Ciaron Maher has already flagged the prospect of Jameka heading to Europe later this year to target some feature races, depending on her form during the Australian autumn carnivals.

There are options at the Royal meeting in June, with a view to targeting the Group One King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2400m) over her pet distance at Ascot in July.

Maher said on Tuesday the QEII Cup (2000m) at Sha Tin on April 30 is also an option.

Jameka could run in the QEII Cup and then go to the UK.

The mare is scheduled to run second-up in Saturday's Group Two Peter Young Stakes (1800m) before the Group One Australian Cup (2000m) two weeks later.

The Group One $1.5 million BMW (2400m) in Sydney next month is alo a possibility.

Maher is thrilled with the way Jameka is coming up this preparation, highlighted by the way she ran home for fourth first-up over 1400m in the Group One C F Orr Stakes last Saturday week.

"I was rapt with that," Maher said.

"I was expecting her to run well. She was quite bright and well, and she had trialled well and very forward.

"Her work leading in showed that."

Jameka headlines the 16 nominations for Saturday's Peter Young which is a traditional lead-up to the Australian Cup.

"She's in great order," Maher said.

"She had a nice gallop this morning and seemed to pull up well."
