Money can't buy three-year-old Niccanova

Sunday 26 February 2017, 2:59pm

Steve Tregea believes the lure of training a top class horse outweighs the big offers being made for rising star three-year-old Niccanova.

Tregea has had offers from Hong Kong and also Australian interests to sell Niccanova who made it two wins from three starts at Doomben on Saturday.

Niccanva looked in trouble at the 200m but finished powerfully at the end of 1600m for an easy win in a 3YO handicap.

It is understood one of the offers came from one of Australia's best known racing names but Tregea said he could not confirm it.

"The bottom line is I don't want to sell him. You wait a long time to get a chance to train a really good horse," Tregea said.

"But I suppose you never say never."

Niccanova is now going for a spell and Tregea hopes he can be competitive in the winter carnival.

"I was going to send him for a spell after his third at Eagle Farm last week over 1200 metres," Tregea.said.

"But he finished so well in that race I decided to give him his chance at 1600 metres.

"He is still very green but I think he will come back a better horse."

Tregea mixes training with his Windemere Stud operation and has had several top class horses including the stakes winner Love Rocks.

He has several promising mares racing at the moment including Wednesday's Eagle Farm winner Kim Noir.
