Menari scores easy barrier trial win

Monday 27 February 2017, 10:29am

Leading Golden Slipper contender Menari has shown he is back on track after an injury scare with a dominant barrier trial win at Rosehill.

The colt was scratched from Saturday's Skyline Stakes at Randwick after undergoing treatment for a cut lip which needed to be stitched.

Trainer Gerald Ryan will run Menari in either the Todman Stakes at Randwick on Saturday or the Black Opal Stakes in Canberra a day later.

In Monday's 900m-trial Menari was on the pace and strode clear in the straight to win by a wide margin.

He is at $8 on the second line of betting for next month's Golden Slipper alongside Houtzen with She Will Reign the $2.80 favourite.

The Gary Portelli-trained She Will Reign will line up in Saturday's Reisling Stakes at Randwick with Houtzen expected to race in Brisbane,
