Prized Icon in Melbourne for Aust Guineas

Thursday 2 March 2017, 8:06am

Trainer James Cummings is covering his Guineas bases with Prized Icon and has a contingency plan if the Randwick meeting is put back.

The Victoria Derby winner is an acceptor for both the Australian Guineas at Flemington and the Randwick equivalent on Saturday.

The colt arrived in Melbourne on Thursday morning but Cummings could exercise the option to bring him back to Sydney if the Randwick meeting is moved because of wet weather.

Racing NSW and the Australian Turf Club are monitoring the forecast with a view to a decision on race eve whether the meeting should be moved to early next week.

Stewards have given Cummings permission to keep Prized Icon in the Randwick Guineas field but say he would be expected to scratch from one of the races as soon as the fate of the Randwick meeting is known.
