Dolly Dolly earns Sydney carnival start

Saturday 16 March 2013, 3:02pm

Consistent mare Dolly Dolly will chase black-type races in Sydney after her dominant Gold Coast win on Saturday.

Trainer Brian Smith confirmed an interstate trip for Dolly Dolly ($5) after the mare won the Sirromet Wines Handicap (1800m) by 3-3/4 lengths from Gold Shears ($17) with Boys On Tour a half-head away third.

Smith said Dolly Dolly would have her next start in the Group Three Epona Stakes (1900m) at Rosehill on March 30.

"She's been racing consistently for five months now which is a marvellous effort because she's not overly big," Smith said.

"I just backed off on her after her last run and freshened her up for this race because it's a nice lead-up for the Epona in a fortnight."

Although the company will be stronger in the Epona, Smith is confident the mare has earned a crack at black-type company.

"The race down there will suit her especially if there'a bit of rain around and I think she'll acquit herself well," he said.

"There were some nice horses in that race today but she just toyed with them."

Earlier, tough stayer Mukaddamah Son earned a Toowoomba Cup start after he shouldered 59kg topweight with ease to win the Equine Supplements Handicap (1800m).

"The Toowoomba Cup's been in the back of my mind for a while and I think he's good enough to measure up in it," trainer Jack Duncan said.

"The cushion track up there shouldn't be too much of a problem because he's won on that sort of surface at the Sunshine Coast."

Duncan is yet to decide which races Mukaddamah Son will target before the Toowoomba Cup (2100m) on June 2.
