Too Good To Refuse for Newcastle

Sunday 12 March 2017, 3:51pm

Doncaster Mile hopeful Too Good To Refuse will aim to enhance his chances of a start in the $3 million race via the Newcastle Newmarket.

He will have a solid work session at Randwick on Monday before heading to the Group Three Newmarket (1400m) on Friday.

Too Good To Refuse had his first start in Sydney this campaign when seventh to Le Romain in the Group One Canterbury Stakes at Randwick two weeks ago.

Trainer Desleigh Forster was happy enough with his performance to continue to aim Too Good To Refuse at the Group One Doncaster Mile on April 1.

"He had a few things against him in the Canterbury Stakes," Forster said.

"For starters the 1300 metres was always going to be too short and he wasn't suited at weight for age.

"Also having the track very wet played against him. But he went well and probably should have finished a bit closer."

She has had the Newcastle Newmarket earmarked for Too Good To Refuse for several months.

"It fits in perfectly with the Doncaster. He is well down the list for a Doncaster run but a win at Newcastle should put him in the race," she said.

"I am told the Newcastle track should suit him as there is a nice long run in and that is what he needs."

Tye Angland rode Too Good To Refuse in the Canterbury Stakes but Forster is undecided about a Newmarket rider.

"I will make up my mind in the next two days. But I might even look at bringing Jeff Lloyd down early to ride him," she said.

"Jeff has to come to Sydney to ride Houtzen in the Golden Slipper and he might come a day earlier. But nothing is certain."
