Retired stallion Danehill Dancer has been euthanised at the age of 24 at Coolmore Stud in Ireland after succumbing to the infirmities of old age.
Danehill Dancer shuttled to Australia and produced Group One winners Choisir and Private Steer from his third crop.
Choisir is famous for his 2003 Royal Ascot sprint double and was also retired to Coolmore along with his son Starspangledbanner, also a Group One winner in both hemispheres.
"Danehill Dancer was a wonderful sire and has left a significant legacy at Coolmore through his sons Mastercraftsman and Choisir and grandson Starspangledbanner, while The Gurkha is a very exciting sire prospect for the future," Coolmore's M V Magnier said.
"His brilliant daughter Legatissimo was scanned in foal to Galileo this morning and Minding and Alice Springs will be very welcome additions to the broodmare band once they finish their racing careers."
