Jeff Lloyd lands 100th winner

Wednesday 15 March 2017, 4:41pm

Jeff Lloyd has become only the second jockey in 160 years of Queensland racing to ride 100 metropolitan winners in a season.

Lloyd brought Medieval ($3.80) with a well timed run to win Wednesday's Class Three (1630m) and join Chris Munce in the centurion club.

Munce set the Brisbane metropolitan record of 103 winners in 2011/12.

Mick Dittman took 33 years to ride a season-best 97-1/2 winners in 1979/80 and break Bill Briscoe's then record for Brisbane of 86.

Munce then took a further 31 years to break Dittman's record.

Lloyd has taken only 7-1/2 months of the season to get to 100 and within reach of the record.

Lloyd also leads the Australian jockeys title on 131 winners and the state title on 130.

"It is satisfying to achieve the landmark and I am glad it is over because I didn't want it lingering on," Lloyd said.

He will not ride at the Gold Coast on Saturday as he will be in Sydney where he partners Golden Slipper favourite Houtzen at Rosehill

Brisbane's leading apprentice Tiffani Brooker continued her good recent form when she steered the Dan Bougoure-trained Snitzel's Joy ($7) to win the Fillies and Mares Class 4 (1050m).

The trainer and jockey combined to win with Like A Ruler at Eagle Farm on Monday and Bougoure has high hopes for both horses.

"Snitzel's Joy tore a hamstring as a yearling and we thought she would never race. But she has won three races now and I might look to a Class Three Plate on a Saturday," Bougoure said.

"We bought her half brother at the Magic Millions sales so it looks good all around."

It was the 22nd metropolitan winner for Brooker this season.
