Invader to be vetted again before Slipper

Friday 17 March 2017, 10:40am

Invader will be given one last chance to satisfy officials he is fit to take his place in the Golden Slipper after failing a veterinary examination.

Racing NSW chief veterinary officer Craig Suann inspected the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained colt on Friday afternoon and determined he was not fit to race because of a stone bruise.

Stewards said Invader would be examined again on Saturday morning before a final decision was made.

There was better news for trainer Gary Portelli with Single Bullet passing his second vet test on race eve after suffering abrasions to his forelegs when he became cast in his box.

The Gerald Ryan-trained Chauffeur, runner-up to Slipper favourite Houtzen in the Magic Millions Classic in January, is the first emergency for the Slipper.
