Gollan's plan off to flying start at Coast

Saturday 18 March 2017, 1:29pm

Trainer Tony Gollan's plan to unleash his best two year olds late in the season got off to a good start when Miss Exfactor scored at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Miss Exfactor ($1.85) earned herself a possible trip to Sydney when she led all of the way to beat Shogun Sun ($5.50) by 1-1/4 lengths in the QTIS Two Year Old (1200m).

Gollan hasn't had a lot of two year old runners this season but will be rolling them out in coming weeks.

"We have got several well bred young horses who will be racing in the near future. It is a bit hard to place Miss Exfactor in the order of ability," Gollan said.

"She has done it while a few others are yet to prove themselves on the racetrack. But she is a nice filly and should have finished closer to the Golden Slipper favourite Houtzen at her debut."

"Miss Exfactor resented the whip when second behind Houtzen and she could have finished closer. Not won but finished closer."

Gollan only got Miss Exfactor, a daughter of Group One-winning sire Your Song, when Jason McLachlan decided to give up training.

"Miss Exfactor was going to Jason but the owners then had to find another trainer. Paul Snowden recommended me to the owners and I am glad to get a winner for them," Gollan said.

He said Miss Exfactor might head to Sydney late in the autumn carnival for races such as the Percy Sykes Handicap.

Glen Colless said Shogun Sun had raced well but found the winner too slick at 1200m.
