Leon Corstens has nominated two-year-old Fantome Gris for next month's Sires' Produce Stakes in Sydney, a move which says something about the trainer's opinion of the filly.
Whether Fantome Gris gets that far remains to be seen but Corstens is looking for the youngster to make a positive return at Sandown on Wednesday in a race expected to be short of her best.
Fantome Gris, who was unplaced in her only start in the spring, resumes in the Swettenham Stud Dash For Cash (900m) and is one of only two runners in the eight-horse field with race experience.
"I don't think 900 metres is her go, she's more of a 1400-metre filly but I do think she's a very, very nice filly," Corstens said.
He will be guided by how Fantome Gris finishes her race off at Sandown before deciding where to head.
Fantome Gris is among the entries for the Group One Sires' Produce (1400m) at Randwick on April 13.
"You put these nominations in and hope they take the right steps at the time," Corstens said.
"We'll just wait and see."
Fantome Gris finished eighth in her debut which was won by Crack A Roadie before going for a spell.
"She's grown quite and bit and got a bit stronger," Corstens said.
Three-year-old stablemate Sullen Art resumes over 1000m in the Browns Sawdust and Shavings Handicap in her first start since finishing eighth as an outsider in the Group Two Fillies Classic at Moonee Valley (1600m) in the spring.
Corstens said Sullen Art would be better suited over further and needed to learn to settle if she was to produce her best on raceday.
"She's got to settle and get right mentally," he said.
The Sandown meeting features two jumps races with the Caulfield Easter Saturday Steeple (3300m) and the Easter Sunday Hurdle (3300m).
The final race on the card, meanwhile, has two imports set to make their Australian debuts with Chris Waller entering four-year-old Rugged Cross and Mark Kavanagh has accepted with five-year-old Sharalam.
